## A personal brand, with Helen alongside

Ian Anderson Gray is Ian's personal brand: his name, his voice, mostly his face. Helen, his wife, is a partner in the business and appears with him in some photos and on the pages for work she leads. The brand is never renamed to the two of them.

![Ian smiling, head and shoulders, in an orange checked shirt against a dark grey wall](https://new2.iag.me/media/shoot-2026-77-800.jpg)

### Ian Anderson Gray

Founder

The face and voice of the brand. Almost everything is written in Ian's first person, and he is in most of the photos.

![Helen smiling in an embroidered white blouse against a dark grey wall](https://new2.iag.me/media/shoot-2026-80-800.jpg)

### Helen

Partner

Ian's wife and partner in the business. She appears alongside Ian in some photos and on the pages for work she leads, but the brand stays Ian's personal brand: it is never renamed to the two of them.

### Personality

- Warm
- Curious
- Plain-speaking
- Playful
- Human first
- Quietly expert

### Name and tagline

- **Always the full name:** Ian Anderson Gray. Not “Ian Gray”, “IAG” or “Ian A. Gray”. “Ian” is fine on second mention.
- **The tagline is Creative AI Solutions**, a working one that may change. Under the name in spaced capitals, or in a sentence: “Ian Anderson Gray: Creative AI Solutions”.
- **AI is always in capitals**, spelled out as artificial intelligence the first time where the reader may not know it.
- **iag.me** is the web address, in lower case. It is not the brand name.

## Logo: six directions to react to

The current logo stays in use until a new one is finished. These are rough sketches, not finished logos: they are here so you can say what you like and what you don't. The direction you choose goes to a human designer to draw properly.

![The current logo: an orange play button inside three rings, the name, and the tagline](https://new2.iag.me/brand/files/ian-anderson-gray-horizontal-colour.svg)![The current logo: an orange play button inside three rings, the name, and the tagline](https://new2.iag.me/brand/files/ian-anderson-gray-horizontal-reverse.svg)In use until replaced

### ARound glasses

Ian's round glasses, drawn as two rings, with a play button in one lens.

**Why:** Instantly personal: the glasses are in every photo. Keeps a nod to the play button and live video.

**Watch out:** Glasses icons are common in optician and 'vision' branding; the designer would need to make it unmistakably Ian's.

As a browser tab icon, 32 and 16 pixels. Lettering: Fraunces.

### BPlay and spark

The current play button, softened, with a hand-drawn spark: pressing play on a new idea.

**Why:** The smallest change from today, so it keeps the recognition you already have.

**Watch out:** Sparkles have become the default symbol for AI features in software, so it could look generic.

As a browser tab icon, 32 and 16 pixels. Lettering: Bricolage Grotesque.

### CSignature

Your own handwriting as the logo, digitised from a real signature, with an orange underline.

**Why:** The most human option there is, which says 'human first' without a word. Nobody can copy it.

**Watch out:** Handwriting can be hard to read small, so it needs a simple initials version for icons.

As a browser tab icon, 32 and 16 pixels. Lettering: Caveat (stand-in).

### DSpeech bubble

Your initials inside a soft speech bubble: conversation, voice, teaching.

**Why:** Ties together speaking, live video, communication coaching and talking to AI.

**Watch out:** Speech bubbles are widely used by chat apps; the shape and lettering need real character.

As a browser tab icon, 32 and 16 pixels. Lettering: Fraunces.

### ESticker badge

A round sticker with your name and tagline around the edge and a little glasses-and-smile face in the middle.

**Why:** Playful and very 'social': works as a profile picture, a laptop sticker, a watermark.

**Watch out:** The words around the edge disappear at small sizes, so only the face works as an icon.

As a browser tab icon, 32 and 16 pixels. Lettering: Figtree.

ian anderson grayCreative AI Solutions

### FOrange check

A tile woven from the orange check of your shirt, with your initials on top.

**Why:** Links the logo to the photos and gives a pattern to use on slides, merchandise and backgrounds.

**Watch out:** Busy at very small sizes, and it ties the brand to one shirt.

As a browser tab icon, 32 and 16 pixels. Lettering: Bricolage Grotesque.

### What happens next

1. **You pick one or two directions**Or say what to combine: the glasses with the signature, say.
2. **A designer brief**I write it, with these sketches as a starting point rather than a template.
3. **A human designer draws it**Including versions for light and dark backgrounds, a small icon, and the files for print.

## Colour

Warm and calm: a strong orange used sparingly, on warm whites and soft browns rather than cold greys. Four new softer colours are proposed for illustrations, highlights and charts, to make the site feel less corporate.

## Fonts: try them on this page

Use the **Try fonts** button in the bottom corner to switch the whole page, including the site's own menu, between seven pairings, or mix your own. Now showing: **Warm storyteller**.

### Three jobs, three fonts (plus handwriting)

- **Headings:** where the personality lives. Can be expressive.
- **Reading text:** articles and pages. Must be calm and very readable at small sizes.
- **Menu, buttons and labels:** short words people scan. Often the reading font, a little bolder.
- **Handwritten notes:** margin notes and arrows, used sparingly. Ideally your own handwriting made into a font.

Subheading

### Start with one boring job

Introduction

I help businesses use AI to be more productive and creative, without losing what makes them human.

Reading text

Most teams don't need a grand AI strategy to begin. They need one small, annoying task, a tool that can help with it, and the permission to experiment. *That's where the confidence comes from.* **Bold for the key point.**

### Worth knowing: three paid fonts

These can't be shown here without buying a licence, but each foundry's site has a tester. Web licences are usually priced by how many people visit the site.

- **Recoleta** by [Latinotype](https://www.latinotype.com/). A soft, rounded 1970s serif: the paid cousin of Fraunces, with more polish and weights.
- **GT Walsheim** by [Grilli Type](https://www.grillitype.com/). A warm geometric sans-serif with friendly round letters, used by many creative studios.
- **Söhne** by [Klim Type Foundry](https://klim.co.nz/). A refined, slightly mechanical sans-serif; the font of choice for many technology companies, so less distinctive.

Personality, used sparingly: social posts that react to news, the page-not-found page, error and empty messages, newsletter openings, myth-busting posts, and pointing at a button or a headline.

Sticker: the silly ones

### Do

- Use the 2026 photos for anything new.
- Keep Ian in front: Helen joins him, not the other way round.
- Use the silly ones sparingly, one at a time, where a smile helps.
- Give every photo useful alt text: a short description for people using screen readers.
- Credit Amber-Rose Smith where you can.

### Don't

- Use stock photos of people pretending to work.
- Use AI-generated pictures of Ian, Helen or any real person.
- Put text over a face, or add heavy filters.
- Crop Helen out of a photo of the two of you.

06

## Illustration: drawn by people

Blog posts, courses and talks get commissioned illustrations by human illustrators, not AI images. It is a choice that says what the brand believes: AI should help people be more creative, not replace them.

A visual metaphor for an article about feeling lost with AI tools: one orange accent marks the way through.

The brand belief in one picture: the robot hands over the brush; the person paints.

These rough sketches only show the idea for briefing. The real illustrations will be drawn by an illustrator in their own hand.

### The style to brief

- **One idea per picture:** a simple visual metaphor for the article, like a maze, a bridge or a toolbox.
- **Loose, hand-drawn ink lines** with a soft colour wash: Sky, Sage, Butter and Blush.
- **One orange accent** that carries the point: the idea, the answer, the way through.
- **A recurring character** could appear now and then: a little figure in round glasses.
- **Works in dark mode:** drawn on a transparent background, or delivered in a light and a dark version.

### How to commission

1. **Find one illustrator**Through the Association of Illustrators in the UK, Behance, or fellow Adobe Express Ambassadors.
2. **A starter set**A style sheet and the character, then ten general pictures (AI, live video, social media, speaking, creativity) that fit many old posts.
3. **Then one per flagship article**Bespoke pictures for the big pieces; the starter set covers the rest.
4. **Agree the licence**Commercial use on the web, social and print, permission to crop and recolour, and the source files.

✦

**Paul Boag, for comparison,** makes his with Midjourney, an AI image generator, using one style reference image to keep them consistent, and has written that he doesn't love that it takes work from illustrators. A human style sheet does the same job for a real illustrator, and a short credit line on each post ("Illustration by …") turns the choice into part of the brand.

### Where AI does help with images

- Making sizes and crops of finished photos and illustrations for each social network.
- Removing or extending a photo background, and tidying screenshots.
- Drafting alt text for a human to check.
- Charts and diagrams drawn from real data.
- Rough thumbnails while briefing an illustrator, never published.
- Anything that is about AI itself, clearly labelled as made with AI.

## Dark mode

The site follows the visitor's device setting, and the accessibility menu lets anyone choose light, dark or high contrast. Dark mode is the same brand with the lights down: warm near-black rather than pure black, and a lighter orange so links stay readable.

- **Background is Night, #141210**: a warm near-black. Pure black makes white text shimmer.
- **Orange gets lighter for text**: Peach (#F29A73) for links, because Burnt orange is too dark to read on Night.
- **Shadows don't work in the dark**, so panels sit on a slightly lighter surface instead.
- **Photos are dimmed a touch** (to 94% brightness) so they don't glare.
- **Logos and illustrations** need a dark version or a transparent background; never a white box.
- **Test both**: every new page and graphic is checked in light and dark before it goes live.

| Role | Light | Dark |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Background | `#FFFDFB` | `#141210` |
| Panels | `#F6F1EC` | `#1F1B18` |
| Text | `#1D1A17` | `#ECE6E1` |

## Voice

### Friendly expert

First person, warm and direct: “I’ll show you how”, not “users are enabled to”. Knowledgeable without showing off.

### Plain English

Use the real term, then explain it. Spell out abbreviations the first time. Short sentences. If you couldn't say it out loud, rewrite it.

### Human first

AI is a tool to help people be more creative, never a replacement for them. Honest about what it can’t do.

### British English

Colour, organise, programme. Dates as 28 October 2026. Hyphens or commas rather than long dashes.

## Brand family

One company, one main brand, two focused brands under it. A separate company sits alongside.

1. **Seriously Social Limited**The company.
2. **Ian Anderson Gray**Its trading name and the main brand.
3. **Seriously Social and Confident Live**Focused brands for social media and for live video, shown “by Ian Anderson Gray”.

![iag.me seriously social logo: iag in red, .me handwritten, seriously social underneath](https://new2.iag.me/brand/files/seriously-social.png)

### Seriously Social

Social media

Where it all started: Ian's blog about social media tools and strategy since 2011, and the name of the company. Use it for social media articles, tools reviews and training.

**Fonts:** Dutch 766 Bold BT and Myriad. The logo dates from 2012 and still says iag.me. Refresh it before using it in new places.

### Confident Live

Live video

Ian's live video brand: the Confident Live Marketing Show and podcast (2019 to 2025), courses and the Confident Live Studio. Use it for live streaming, video production and speaking on camera.

**Fonts:** Bebas Neue or Alternate Gothic No. 2 for headings, Myriad Pro for text. The Ian Anderson Gray mark is the Confident Live play button in the new orange, which ties the two together.

![Select Performers logo: two teal slashes, SELECT PERFORMERS and web business solutions](https://new2.iag.me/brand/files/select-performers.png)

### Select Performers

Separate company · Websites, hosting and care plans

Ian's other company, Select Performers Limited, builds and looks after websites. It is a separate company with its own brand, so never combine its logo with the Ian Anderson Gray logo or present it as part of Seriously Social Limited.
