# Comment guidelines

**Draft for Ian to check (28 October 2026).** Written from his existing pages and notes. Still to confirm:

- Whether comments will be open on the new site, and how (they're closed on the test copy)
- Whether to require approval for everyone's first comment

I love hearing from you. Over the years, the comments here have answered questions I couldn't, and corrected me when I was wrong. To keep it a friendly, useful place, here are the house rules.

## Please do

- **Be kind.** Disagree with ideas, never attack people.
- **Stay on topic.** Share your experience, ask questions, add tips.
- **Help each other.** If you know the answer to someone's question, jump in.
- **Tell me if something's out of date.** I'll update the article and thank you.
- **Use your real name, or a nickname you're happy with.**

## Please don't

- post links to sell something, or to your own site unless it genuinely helps
- share anyone's personal information, including your own
- use abusive, hateful or discriminatory language
- post the same comment more than once

## How comments are handled

- Your first comment waits for approval; after that, comments usually appear straight away.
- Spam filters catch most junk, and I remove anything that breaks these rules.
- I may lightly edit a comment, for example to remove a link, and I'll never change its meaning.
- I can't always reply to everyone, but I read every comment.

## Your information

When you comment, your name and comment are shown publicly. Your email address is never shown or shared. More in the [privacy page](https://new2.iag.me/privacy/).
